Josephine V. Knapp (Vant Zelfde )

Age 101, of Horseheads, NY. Shewas born February 15, 1924 in Lockwood, NY, the daughter of the late Frank and Bernardina (Lezzer) Vant Zelfde. Josephine passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29th, 2025 at home. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, Boyd R. Knapp in 2007; as well as her sister and two brothers. She is survived by her daughter Bonnie Tressler of Horseheads; her grandson Timothy (Tammy) Tressler; along with cousins, extended family, and dear friends.

Josephine grew up in a house hold of music. She was a trained violinist, but also played the accordion, and was often celebrated for her piano playing at family gatherings. She was very active in her community, and worked as a key punch operator for Bendix, Westinghouse, and Thatcher Glass before her retirement.

Family and friends are invited to visit the Horseheads First United Methodist Church, 1034 West Broad Street, Horseheads, on Monday, May 12th, 2025 from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm. Her funeral service will be held there at 1 pm. Pastor Jeff McDowell officiating. Committal prayers and interment to follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads.
