Obituary of Denise S. Allen

Denise S. Allen (Laverty), passed away on July 5, 2025 in Big Flats, New York, at the age of fifty-eight. Born on May 31, 1967, in Wichita Falls, Texas. Denise lived a life marked by intellectual curiosity, quiet devotion, and heartfelt care for those around her. Denise pursued her passion for science with determination and excellence. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Appalachian State University and went on to complete a Master's Degree in Optical Physics at the University of Rochester. Her academic achievements allowed her to have a career in the U.S. Patent Office and Corning Incorporated in their manufacturing and research divisions. Beyond her professional pursuits, Denise was known for her warmth and dedication to family. She was a loving and cherished wife to her husband, Kirk Allen of 26 years. Her bond with her family remained strong throughout her life; she lovely cared her aging parents, Mary Lou, and Theodore Laverty, during their final years. She was active in her church playing in the handbell choir, serving as a Deacon, and participating in worship services and bible studies. Denise found joy in the simple pleasures in life. She was an avid cook who delighted in preparing meals with care and creativity alongside Kirk. Her hands were often busy with basket weaving and knitting projects that displayed both patience and artistry. An enthusiastic researcher of ancestry, she spent countless hours tracing family roots and preserving stores from generations past. At home, she found comfort and companionship in the playful presence of her beloved cats. She is survived by her husband Kirk Allen; brother Brian Laverty and his wife Tara, and their children Leo and Anne. Family and friends are invited to honor Denise for her Celebration of Life on August 30, 2025, starting at 10:30am, at the First Presbyterian Church, Corning, NY. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Denise's name to 171 Cedar Arts Center located at 171 Cedar Street, Corning, NY 14830.
