Obituary of Helen Phelps

Helen Phelps Age 97, of Beaver Dams, NY. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on November 7th, 2025. A lifetime servant of God, Helen was known for her enduring spirit and tireless generosity. Alongside her first husband, James, she co-owner and operated the James R. Phelps school bus company for 35 years and dedicated her time to fostering approximately 50 children. Helen loved adventure, visiting all 50 states (including three trips to Alaska), and was actively in square and round dancing well into her 80's. She also volunteered monthly at the Grace Lee Memorial Wesleyan Church Food Pantry for many years. In 2018, at the age of 90, Helen found love again and married Clifton Dexter, with whom she shared her final seven years of adventure and companionship. Helen is survived by her husband Clifton Dexter; three sons Stanley (Shirley) Phelps, LaVerne (Dail) Phelps, and Dale (Linda) Phelps; her sister Thelma Webber; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 59 years, James Phelps, her parents, and five siblings. Family and friends are invited to visit the Grace Lee Memorial Wesleyan Church, at 2075 Chambers Rd, Beaver Dams, NY 14812, On Saturday, November 15th, 2025 from 1 pm to 3 pm. Helen's memorial celebration will be held there at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be directed to the Grace Lee Memorial Wesleyan Church Food Pantry of Beaver Dams - 2075 Chambers Rd, Beaver Dams, NY 14812 Helen will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
