Obituary of Joseph Hmiel

Joseph “Joe” Hmiel Of Horseheads, NY Age 75 was born January 31, 1950 in Elmira, NY. The son of the late Carl J. and Etta (Serosky) Hmiel; passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025 at home. He is predeceased by his brother Richard Hmiel and sister Barbara Hmiel. Joe is survived by his children Michael (Lyrrah) Hmiel of Hertford, NC; Lisa Meyer of Rome, GA; Scott (Tiffany) Hmiel of Newport News, VA; brother John Hmiel; nephews John Hmiel III, Derek Hmiel, Corey Hmiel; grandchildren Christina Hmiel, Jessica Hmiel, Alexandria Hmiel, Syre Lequin, Joseph (Haley) Coleman, Mikala Coleman, Hannah (Dawson) Boatner and Samuel Coleman. Joe was a Vietnam Veteran, serving in the United States Army and a retired New York State Corrections Officer. He treasured his time spent in the woods hunting or by the creek fishing. He rooted for the St. Louis Cardinals and could often be seen wearing the red bird shirt. He loved his New York State scratchers, always hoping to hit the big one. Joseph will be laid to rest in Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira NY where he will be accorded Military Honors. Rest in eternal peace.
