Carol (Monroe) Wood

3/5/1945 – 3/21/2026

On March 21, 2026 Carol (Monroe) Wood left this world exactly as she wanted to; pain free, at peace, and with her family. She leaves behind her beloved husband and best friend of 47 years, David; her favorite daughters Kimberly (David) Nagle, and Kristy (Dan Adams) Ryan; favorite grandson JT Ryan; favorite granddaughter Peyton Ryan; and her bestie kitties Morgan, and Gracey.

She was predeceased by her parents John and Gertrude (Williams) Monroe; and her sister Joan Washenko.

Carol worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Chemung Heating & Bldg. To the very penny she would balance everything out, and was happy to argue with Chemung Canal Bank over a 5 cent error on their part.

She was an avid reader, and since retiring she read over 4,000 books. She was the best gift giver and every holiday season almost single handedly repaired the economy. In spite of a multitude of debilitating health issues, she still was always there for her immediate and extended family, and friends.

While we are happy she is finally pain free, we miss her terribly.

Family and friends are invited to visit Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., in Horseheads, NY on Saturday, March 28, 2026 from 1 pm to 3 pm to gather and celebrate her life together. Carol will be laid to rest privately in Woodlawn Cemetery, in Elmira.
