Gary R. Thomas

Age 74 of Big Flats, and formerly of Millport, NY. Gary was born March 7, 1952 in Elmira, NY, the son of the late Robert and Jean (Bowlby) Thomas, and he passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026.

In addition to his parents, Gary was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joanne I. (German), in 2011; his brothers Luke and George; brothers-in-law Bob Miller, and Gary German; niece Heather German; and grand nephew Kristopher German.

He is survived his two sons Robert (Jasmine) Thomas, and Kevin (Kari) Thomas; grandchildren Devon, Aiden, Alexandria, and Amelia; great granddaughter, Raya; sisters Gail Miller, and Mary Martin

Gary served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1973. Upon returning home, and starting their family with Joanne, he was a hard working man who still took time for his own hobbies. Gary's interests in sports changed over his life, starting with baseball and migrating to supporting football (Dolphins), and developing his 'system' and his attention to horse-racing. He was also an avid golfer.

Family and friends are invited to visit the First Baptist Church, 2293 Grand Central Ave, Horseheads, NY, on Monday, May 11th at 12 noon. His memorial service will be held there at 1:00 pm

Gary will be laid to rest alongside Joann in Maple Grove Cemetery, in Horseheads, with military honors.
