Mary Catherine Toole Whiting
Age 81 of Horseheads, NY passed away unexpectedly on May 25th, 2026 at home. She was born on October 28th, 1944 in Elmira, NY. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Roger Whiting and grandparents, Michael and Marie Petoski. Mary Catherine leaves behind a legacy of love. She is survived by her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Stacy and Paul Richmond, adored granddaughters, Jenna and Allison Richmond and cherished fur baby, Bella. Mary Catherine retired from the Elmira City School District after over 30 years of service. She was a communicant of St. Mary's in Elmira. She loved to travel with her husband, as they traveled to all 50 states. Mary Catherine was a devoted grandma and was so proud of her granddaughters. She enjoyed attending their sporting events, cheering everyone on and chatting with all of the fans. She was an avid cook, who loved feeding family and friends. She was someone whose humor brought people together and whose laughter and fun spirit filled the room.
Mary Catherine lived life to the fullest, was a loyal friend, always showing compassion and generosity toward others. She was a bright light in this world and will be deeply missed.
Family and friends are invited to visit Barber Funeral Home, 413 South Main Street, Horseheads, on Sunday, May 31st from 3-6pm. Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, 224 Franklin St., Elmira, NY on Monday, June 1st at 10am. Interment to follow at Saint Peter and Paul's Cemetery.
