Peter Joseph Acampora, 78, of Horseheads, New York, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Born in the Bronx, New York, on July 31, 1947, Peter dedicated many years to officiating NCAA Division I volleyball, earning the respect of coaches, athletes, and fellow officials for his professionalism, knowledge of the game, and commitment to excellence. He also mentored many officials throughout his career. A kidney cancer survivor, Peter faced his final illness with determination and strength.

He is survived by his children, Cristina A. Anderson, Peter Acampora III, and Stephen J. Acampora; and his cherished grandchildren, Kaitlin Anderson, Ashley Anderson, Dylan Acampora, and Sofia Acampora.

Family and friends are invited to visit Barber Funeral Home, 413 South Main Street, Horseheads, New York, on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A Catholic funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m., officiated by Fr. Matthew Walter. A private burial will follow.
