Obituary of Leland ""Jack"" Satterlee

SATTERLEE, Leland “Jack” Age 90 of W. Broad St. Horseheads, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday evening, November 14, 2015. Jack was born in Elmira to the late Leland and Lydia (Pedrick) Satterlee. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his loving wife, Virginia “Ginnie” Satterlee in March 2015; and brother-in-law, Gordon (Veronica) Shafer. Jack is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn (Jerry) Welliver of Horseheads, NY, Judy Ann (Art) Clark also of Horseheads, NY, Sylvia (Dave) White of Bernhards Bay, NY; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jim (Michele Locey) Clark, Rocky, Graydon and Rochele Locey; Amy (Mike) Klossner, Jake Klossner and Casey Klossner; Chad (Pia) Clark, and Jayden Clark; Shawna White, Marissa White; brother, Robert (Lois) Satterlee of Greeley, CO; brother-in-law, Dr. Robert (Joan) Shafer of Chemung, NY; and several nieces and nephews. Jack was a member of Elmira Heights Lodge F. & A.M. He retired as a patternmaker for GE Foundry. Prior to entering the War, Jack worked at the Elmira Knitting Mill. As a veteran of the US Navy, Jack spent basic training at Sampson Naval Base in Geneva and later served in Okinawa, Japan. In his earlier years, after returning from WWII, he worked at Ward LaFrance. Jack was a 50 year member of Oakwood UMC and member of their Beacon Class. Together with his wife Ginnie, they were also active in the Pinochle Club. In addition to the time spent with family and friends, he enjoyed sailing, canoeing, and fishing at the family cottage on Lamoka Lake. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, Inc., 413 S. Main St., Horseheads on Friday, November 20, 2015, from 4-7:00pm and again on Saturday from 10:00 -11:00 am. His service will follow there at the funeral home on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 11:00 am. Burial with military honors will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira.
