Obituary of Ralph W. Meckes

Ralph W. Meckes Age 80 and long time resident of Horseheads went home to be with the Lord peacefully at home on Friday, February 19, 2016. He was born in Blossburg, PA, August 5, 1935, to James and Rose (Robinson) Meckes. Ralph is survived by his wife, Carol (Lauver) Meckes; daughter, Teresa (Jason Colunio) Meckes of Elmira; son, Douglas Meckes of Elmira; granddaughter, Christina; brothers, Keith (Ann) Meckes and Gary (Doris) Meckes; sister, Joyce Merritt; sisters-in-law, Sue (Tom) Senkiw and Betty Meckes; nieces and nephews. Ralph was predeceased by an infant daughter as well as sons, James Meckes, Gary Landon; and brothers, Donald and Wayne Meckes. Ralph was a dedicated member of Horseheads Community Wesleyan Church and United States Navy Veteran. He was a member of Twin Tier Racquet Club, Radio Bible Class and The Elmirans. He enjoyed reading his Bible every day, music, Civil War History, tennis and horseshoes. He loved frequent trips to Gettysburg, people, church fellowship, his pastors and church family and friends. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, Inc., 413 South Main Street, Horseheads on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, from 12:00 noon-2:00pm and again from 4-5:00 pm where his service will be celebrated there at 5:00 pm. A time of food and fellowship will follow in the Community Wesleyan Church. Private burial service with military honors will take place in Woodlawn National Cemetery.
