Dear Nancy and Family,
There are no words that I can share with you that will ease your sad hearts. I can simply say the same words spoken by most, I'm so sorry to hear of Gary""s passing.
I really liked Gary, he was such a good friend. We did not see as much of each other after our retirements, but when we did get together for lunch it was always a great time.
Gary and I spent many hours together over the years going to lunch or out for coffee. I remember when we used to go watch the fireworks in Binghamton after the ball games.
whenever we got together we shared a lot of laughs. Gary had the knack of getting others involved in what was going on at our table.
Over the years I learned a lot from Gary and later on realized he was a great mentor to me.
Just last week I thought about calling Gary because we had not spoken in quite a long time. I was shocked when I saw his name in the paper.
During our friendship I had the good fortune of meeting all of you. Gary would always be sure to let me know how everyone was doing. He was so proud of his family. I know from our conversations that you are a close and strong family and that you will be strong together to overcome your sadness to celebrate Gary's life.
I regret that I could not attend the calling hours. I had a previous appointment out of town. Please know however that I am thinking of you and offer my sincerest condolences.
Angelo.

Gary's mother was my fathers sister. My dad's name was Carlton and he lived in Montour Falls. I am 83 and competed against Gary in high school basketball and baseball. We played on the same team in American Legion baseball.. He was a great teammate, and a tough competitor. Lot's of laughs when we were together - unfortunately, our paths never crossed after high school. Such a pity.. Good people are far too few. Bless his family who enjoyed the opportunities to spend time with Gary.. Jene Burris (cousin)

He kept the old idea of neighbors and friends helping out each other
He helped many in their times of need and troubles
He was charitable in quiet ways and never advertised his many good deeds
Without the condolences sent I did not know of many of his deeds
Thank You
Dad was a true family man and was very proud of all his family . He truly enjoyed
any time we could all get together
Dad had many true friends
He never cared what position a person had in life but who that person was .
I learned many things from Dad and had many enjoyable times with him
I will miss his spirit , humor , and friendship
My final wish for my father is that he can now take as long
as he wants to eat with no one watching him
Love and miss you Dad
Finally we give eternal thanks to my Sister Terri and her husband
Steve for all of the comfort and joy they provided Dad and Mom until the end

I have many fond youthful memories of Mr. Slater and all of you while growing up in Watkins Glen. He was a fair-minded man to whom I am greatly indebted. I share your sorrow at his passing but am happy to know that he led a long, full life.
