Obituary of Charles ""Red"" McDermott
Charles 'Red' McDermott, 83, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at his residence in Lakeland, FL. He was born May 4th, 1933 of the late Charles A. and Mae M. (Nichols) McDermott in Elmira. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Navy. In his younger years he was active with the North Chemung Fire Department and was a Past Master of the Southern Light Masonic Lodge in Breesport. In his working career he was an accomplished sheet metal worker and served as shop foreman for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family.
‘Red’ was preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur, and George; his sisters, Gertrude and Rosemary (Slater); as well as his grand-daughter Ashley McDermott. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara (Rafferty); children Mark (Teresa) McDermott, Rhonda Luedeman, Roger (Elizabeth) McDermott, and Larry (Sabrina) McDermott; grandchildren: (Mark) Cody Lawrence, Justin Serosky, Dylan and Laura McDermott, (Rhonda) Brinn (Luedeman) and Joshua Goddard; (Roger) Patrick and Erin (Farmer) McDermott, Caroline, Brian and Nicholas May; (Larry) Jobe McDermott, Dakota Knight, Christina, and Kaitlyn McDermott; great-grandchildren (Brinn) Alissa and Nickolas Goddard and (Ashley) Brenton Stevens; nieces, nephews and close friends.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St. Horseheads, NY on Thursday, July, 14, 2016 from 5-8:00 pm. His service will be celebrated there at the funeral home on Fri July 15, 2015 at 11:00 am with graveside service with military honors to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
