Obituary of Jean K. Mace

Mace, Jean K. (Kankus) of Elmira Heights passed away unexpectedly at home after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday morning, October 20, 2016. Jean was predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Robert “Doug” Mace, in 2015. Jean is survived by her loving family, sons, Craig Mace and Scott Mace; and granddaughter, Kendra Mace, all of Elmira Heights, NY; brother, Richard Kankus; sisters-in-law, Maddy Kankus and Peg Kankus; and several nieces and nephews. She was born in Dunmore, PA, to the late Michael and Leona (Pierson) Kankus. Jean was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and active in Classy Lassies. She was an active book reader and enjoyed needle work. She was also a long time member and communicant of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Horseheads. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, Inc., 413 S. Main St., Horseheads on Monday, October 24, 2016, from 3:00PM-6:00PM. A celebration of her life and the Holy Eucharist will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at 10:00AM in St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 408 S. Main St., Horseheads. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads.
