Obituary of Marcia J. (Ludy) Chapman

CHAPMAN, Marcia Jean Ludy was born May 5, 1931, in Binghamton NY, a daughter of Earl & Mildred K Cogenspager Ludy and passed away Sun. Jan 22, 2017. Marcia grew up in Binghamton and moved to Horseheads as a young girl. She met and married Ralph J. Chapman in Erin, NY, in June of 1947 and he passed away in 2010. Earning her GED later in life, she was an avid reader and loved playing Pinochle. Marcia loved entertaining family and friends in her home with home cooked meals. She worked many years for the ARC of Chemung in Horseheads where she started the rummage shop which allowed the clients to learn a skill. Later she worked for NYS in a group home where she retired from in 1987. She and Ralph moved to Florida in 1988 where they continued making friends and enjoying retirement together. In 2004 they moved back to Horseheads to be near family once again. Marcia was a member of Breesport Baptist Church. Marcia is survived by her three daughters, Patricia (Kim) Hiller, Frewsburg, NY, Amy (Gordy) Evans, Breesport, NY, Janice (Mike) Murray, Millport NY; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Chapman, Williamsburg VA; and son-in-law, Gary Noble with current wife Connie, Simpsonville SC; and a nephew who held a special place in her heart, Bob (Pat) Swartwood of Lancaster PA; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews; sisters-in-law, Alice (Chapman) Anderson, AZ and Shirley Ludy, NY; brothers-in-law, David (Marge) Chapman, OR and Donald (Ruth) Chapman, NV. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by daughter, Kathy; sons, Michael and Martin; brothers, Harrison, Stuart and Dean Ludy; and a sister, Audrey Acton. Family and friends are invited to call at the Breesport Baptist Church 1811 N. Chemung Rd. Breesport, NY on Friday Jan. 27, 2017 from 11:00am-12:00 noon. A service celebrating her life will take place there at 12:00 noon. Those wishing may remember Marcia with memorials to Chemung Co.
