Obituary of Franley F. McLean
McLean, Franley F. “Fran”
Age 72 of Chambers passed away suddenly on Sept. 13, 2017. Fran was born in Corning, NY, to the late Melvin and Jessie (Crane) McLean. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Sheila (Fenderson) McLean; Daughters and sons-in-law, Stephanie (Deke) McLean Miller of Somersworth, NH, Erin (Ed) Fairbrother of Big Flats, NY; His adored grandchildren, Ava and Carder Fairbrother; Siblings, Marcie Jayne of Montour Falls, NY, Walter McLean of Beaver Dams, NY, Byron (Beverly) McLean of Coopers Plains, NY, Martin (Sharry) McLean of Addison, NY, Frances Raker of Painted Post, NY and many nieces, nephews, past co-workers and friends. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Corliss, Justin, Vernon and Mylie.
Fran was a proud veteran of the US Army. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Corning and a retired mason and brick layer with Corning Inc. Fran was a humble man with many hobbies including, carving, whittling, painting, a self taught astronomer and star gazer. In addition to being a strong man of faith, his greatest joys were his family, being especially proud of his daughters and grandchildren. He enjoyed teaching kids, and was a volunteer with Little League and Habitat for Humanity. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St. Horseheads on Fri. Oct. 6, 2017 from 5-7:00 pm. A celebration of his life will take place in Christ Episcopal Church 33 East First St. Corning, NY 14830 on Sat. Oct. 7, 2017 at 4:30 pm with a time of stories, food and light libation to follow services in the adjoining Houghton Lounge.
