Obituary of Ruth K. Groff

GROFF, Ruth K. (Knapp) Age 94 and formerly of E. Mill St. and Hancock Drive in Horseheads, and Boca Raton FL passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2017. Daughter of John Herbert Knapp and Mary Theresa Hanley. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Robert A. Groff, Esq. in 2004. She is survived by her children and their families, Robert A. Groff Jr., Esq. (Pamela) of Elmira; John G. Groff, Esq. (Michelle Cole) of Horseheads; Maryruth Groff of Newfield; D. Douglas Groff (Katie) of Romulus; and Phillip A. Groff (Ann Edmunds) of Henderson NV. She is also survived by grandchildren, Jennifer Groff, Jeffrey Groff, Lucas Ingersoll, Hillary Wisner, Andrew Groff, Stephen Groff and David Cormany; great-grandchildren, Harper Wisner, Xander Wisner, Isabella Ingersoll, Nolan Groff, Isabella Groff, Koah Groff, Harlow Groff and Saylor Groff. Ruth graduated from Elmira Free Academy and later from Elmira College in the Class of 1945. Ruth was vivacious and an active, loving supporter of her children and their families. She was sweet and kind and saw good in everyone. She had a ready smile and brought joy into the lives of those she encountered. Ruth was a charter member of the Horseheads Women’s Club and also an active member of Planned Parenthood. At the request of the family there will be no services. A celebration of her life is being planned for the Summer of 2018.
