Obituary of Marian E. Yoder

YODER, Marian E. Age 87 of Horseheads passed away Mar. 14, 2018. Marian was born in Olean NY on May 6, 1930 to the late Lyle and Eva Dunshie Estes. She was predeceased by her husband Jesse Yoder Jr. in 1982 whom she married April 28, 1951. Her surviving family includes her sons, J. Thomas Yoder III of Sayre, PA, David (Shyrll) Yoder of Elmira, NY, Paul (Mary) Yoder of Horseheads, NY; Grandchildren, Shannon and Erin Yoder, Timothy (Jackie) Yoder and Kelli (Matthew) Vaughn ; Great grandchildren Kelsie and Morgan Yoder and Mason Vaughn; Nieces and nephews including Fred (Heather) Estes of San Francisco. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Douglas (Le-ette) Estes and Betty (Harold) Place. Marian graduated from Arnot Ogden Nursing School in 1950. Putting her career on hold to raise her sons, she returned to nursing, working in Dr. Impert’s office in Horseheads. She also worked for Upjohn as a home health nurse. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Horseheads serving as Deacon. She was a member of the Widows and Widowers Support Group and active in the community with AARP serving as “Sunshine Lady”, Meals on Wheels, and served as Den Mother for Cub Scouts. She received the Mildred Parfitt Award in 2012 for Volunteer of the Year. Marian also volunteered on the Horseheads Election Board, Sunday School and Bethany Village Gift Shop. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St. Horseheads on Sunday Mar. 18, 2018 from 1-3:00 pm. Family and friends are further invited to call at the First Presbyterian Church on Mon. Mar. 19, 2018 from 10:30-11:00. A celebration of her life will follow there in church at 11:00 am. The Rev.
