Obituary of Rev. M. Edward Lincoln

Horseheads - The Reverend M. Edward Lincoln 82, Horseheads, NY, peacefully passed away after a brief illness at the Manor at Bethany Village, March 3, 2018. He was born February 3, 1936 in Buffalo, NY, son of the late Milton and Priscilla (Young) Lincoln. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, J. Carol Lincoln; children Katherine (William) Sigrist, of Waterloo, NY, Edward (Erin) Lincoln of Pittsford, NY, Timothy (SueAnn) Lincoln, of Waterloo, NY; grandchildren Michael Sigrist, of Waterloo, NY, Erin Sigrist and fiancé Neal Goswami, of Montpelier, VT, Katelyn Lincoln Harris (Stephen), of Syracuse, NY, Elizabeth Lincoln Altieri (Michael), Courtney Lincoln, of Rochester, NY, Jessica Lincoln Wallenhorst (Patrick), of San Antonio, TX, Taylor Lincoln, Ryan Fennell, Kaelan Fennell and Meghan Fennell of Rochester, NY; great grandchildren Cooper Altieri, Avery Harris and Henry Wallenhorst; brothers-in-law and their wives Lt. Colonels Joseph and Elizabeth Bassett, Commissioners W. Todd and Carol Bassett of Old Orchard Beach, ME; sister-in-law and husband Beth and Michael Krissel of Indian Trail, NC; sister Jean Thornton of Pataskala, OH: and several nieces and nephews. Ed grew up in The Salvation Army and was Salvation Army officer for four years. Upon leaving The Salvation Army Ed graduated from Cortland State in 1967 and received his Master of Divinity degree from Colgate Rochester Divinity School in 1971. He was a United Methodist minister for many years, last serving as District Superintendent of the Elmira District. Ed developed the Pastoral Care at Bethany Village and was the first full time chaplain. Upon his retirement he volunteered with RSVP of Chemung County, Chemung County Chamber of Commerce Tourist Information Center, Arnot Art Museum, AARP Tax Counseling for the Elderly coordinator, Arctic League and LPGA Corning Classic. He was recognized in 2006 as Chemung County Senior Citizen of the Year and received the Jefferson Award for Public Service in 2011. He also received the Rotary Club of Elmira Four Way Test award and was a multiple Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. Ed was a member of the Rotary Club of Elmira and Elmira Torch Club. Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and pastor. He enjoyed family celebrations, Stowe, VT, and the Maine coast. He loved his family and his community. Ed's quiet strength, humor and wisdom will be missed by all who knew him. Friends and family are invited to greet the family on Friday, May 18, 2018 at the Horseheads First United Methodist Church, 5 -7:00 pm. A celebration of Ed's life will be on Saturday, May 19th at 1:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church, 1034 W. Broad St., Horseheads, NY.
