Obituary of Howard Miller

MILLER, Howard E. Age 78 of Sunset Dr. Horseheads passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday Aug. 13, 2018. Howard was born and raised in Manhattan, NY. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Houston Miller; Son and daughters, Don Miller of Horseheads, Irene Oppenheim of Corning and Dawn (Tom) Murray of Rochester; Grandchildren; Jillian (Raul) Zamora, Jeffery Murray, Valerie Oppenheim, Ryan Murray, Charlie Miller, who affectionately renamed his grandfather “Baby Howard” and Tommy Murray; Howard was co-owner and operator of Howard Johnson’s in Horseheads. He was a longtime and active member of Horseheads Kiwanis and served as Trustee in the Village of Horseheads from 2000-2008. Howard was also a veteran of the US Air Force and diehard NY Yankee Fan. Howard loved the village, the residents and nurtured many close friendships. Above all else, Howard loved his family and the time spent with them. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St. Horseheads on Thurs Aug. 16, 2018 from 2-4:00 and 6-8:00 pm. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary Our Mother Church 816 W. Broad St. Horseheads on Friday at 10:00 am with his close friend Rev. Christopher Linsler officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Those wishing may also remember Howard with memorials to Public Library Foundation of Chemung County 405 S.
