Obituary of Alfred "Al" J. Beard

Alfred J. "Al" Beard Age 79 of The Villages in FL and formerly of Horseheads passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 6, 2018 while residing in Florida. Al was born in Pennsylvania to the late Willard and Edith (West) Beard and was recently predeceased by his wife Patricia on Oct. 24, 2017. He is survived by his daughters and sons, Ann (David) Repsher of Elmira, NY, Alan Beard of Aiken, SC, Robert (Flora) of Hillsboro, OR, Suzanne (Barry) Nowlan of Erin, NY; grandchildrenToni (Frank Mejia) West, Angela (Jeff Ripley) Gillette, Ashley (Andrew) Wolfe, Leslie (James Denicola) Nowlan, Melisa (Eric) Pickett, Joshua Beard, Emily Beard, and Andrew Beard; great-grandchildren, MacKenzie and Xander Gillette, Charleigh, Arya and Camryn Ripley, Jordan West, Cheyanne and Chase Wolfe, Julian Denicola, and Noah Pickett; brother Phil (Ida) Beard of Horseheads, sister, Joan (Chuck) Pittman of Melbourne Beach, FL; and his loyal canine companion, Sandy. He is predeceased by his infant sister Phyllis, and brother Stanley. Al and his wife Patricia were long-time members of Horseheads First United Methodist Church and The Villages New Covenant United Methodist Church. Al was a retired CNC operator with Hilliard Corp in Elmira, where he served many years as treasurer for the AFL-CIO Union. He was a longtime member of the “Relaxed Squares” square dancing group and an avid golfer. The opportunity for year-round golfing is what brought him and Patricia to The Villages in Florida. He is remembered as an accomplished baker; he created many beautiful cakes for weddings and birthdays. As with his wife Patricia, what was most important to Al was his wife and family. Al and Patricia were high school sweethearts and lifelong partners. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St. Horseheads on Sat. Sept. 15, 2018 from 12:00 noon – 3:00 pm. His service will be celebrated there at the conclusion of calling hours at 3:00 pm. Committal and interment will be held privately with his family. Those wishing may remember Al through donations to their local SPCA.
