Obituary of Dorisanne Reed

Dorisanne Reed, age 86 died peacefully in her home on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 surrounded by family and loved ones. Dorisanne was a wonderful teacher, wife and mother who taught second and third grades at George Washington Elementary School in Elmira New York for 27 years. Previous to that, she taught a class of 30 second graders in Garfield Heights, Ohio for two years, with no aide. It was there that she met her future husband, Harold who taught in the classroom next to her. They fell in love, were married in 1955 and enjoyed 63 happily married years. Dorisanne was an organized, calm teacher who stressed fundamental educational skills and set an excellent example for her students. Dorisanne was born June 1, 1932 in Erie, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Stephen and Anna Kalivoda. She was a graduate of Edinboro University in Erie where she majored in early childhood education. Dorisanne and Harold moved from Ohio to Horseheads in 1956 and started their family. She is survived by her husband, Harold, daughter Paula Nancarrow of Minneapolis, MN and her children Maggie and Aidan, son Scott (Mary Jo) of Allegany, NY and their children Hillary, John, Katherine and Bradley, daughter Stacey (Victor) Gudonis of Rochester, NY and daughter Whitney (Paul) Trifoso of Corning, NY and their children Matthew, Sarah and Christopher and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother and father, and her sisters Alice Taylor and Carol Shively. Dorisanne was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved and was loved by her in-home health care aides in recent years, including K.C., Krystal, Doreen, Deedee and Linda and her CareFirst nurse Suzanne. She was a deeply religious member of St. Mary Our Mother Catholic Church in Horseheads. Family and friends may call at the Barber Funeral Home on Sunday, February 24, 2019 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 25, 2019 at 10 AM at St. Mary Our Mother Church, Fr. Christopher Linsler, celebrant.
