Obituary of Joyce Aiko Bastilla
Age 90 and former longtime resident of Lynwood Ave., Elmira Heights, Returned to Heaven on February 26, 2019. In addition to her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Edward W. Bastilla Sr. and her daughter-in-law, Kathleen D. Bastilla. She is survived by her sons, Stanley and Edward Bastilla Jr.; her daughter Deborah Lowe, all of Elmira; grandchildren Tom Lowe, Heather (Zec) Hancock, Amber (Dale) Gibson, Brandon (Cristal) Bastilla; great-grandchildren Corynn, Carley, Zamber, Hunter, Rowan, Khristian, Craig, Heavena, Mystyca, Tristan, and Julian; along with an entire family in Japan and various parts of the world. Born the daughter of a Buddhist priest in Kyoto, Japan, Aiko Yasuda met and married serviceman Edward W. Bastilla. Travelling with her husband, Joyce Aiko Bastilla gave birth to her children in New York City, West Point, and in Germany. Settling in Elmira Heights, Joyce worked several jobs and was active in her church as well as several community services. She retired from Westinghouse Corp., in Horseheads as a Lab Technician. Joyce is loved and will be greatly missed by many. She is one of the special people whose mere presence brought joy. Family and friends are invited to visit the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., in Horseheads on Tuesday March 5th 2019 form 4 pm to 6 pm. Joyce’s memorial service will follow at 6 pm. Private committal and interment will take place at a later date.
