Many years back when I first became interested and started judging dog obedience matches, Diane was a valued mentor. Our friendship was spiced with a healthy banter over which breed was “better,“ hers (Beagles) or mine (Goldens). One of my fondest memories is of competing in a trial she was judging. As I prepared to enter the ring with Golden partner Baxter, Diane gestured me to pause momentarily. She plucked from her judging briefcase a baseball cap prominently embroidered with the image of a beagle. Donning that cap, and with the smuggest of grins, she then welcomed me to her ring. I’ll always remember that great sense of humor. Rest in piece, my friend.
