Obituary of Murbel Norton

Murbel Norton, Age 94 of Elmira, NY, daughter of the late Ray and Minabella Carey, born December 31, 1929 in Watkins Glen, NY, passed away February 12, 2024. She is survived by her sons William (Diane) Norton and Edward (Deborah) Norton; grandchildren Edward Jr. “Bo” (Sarah) Norton, and Tonya (Cody) Shock; great-grandchildren Christopher (Mike) Stilson, Dylan (Samantha) Norton, Alexis (James) Norton, Ace Stilson, and Kaylee Stilson. She is also survived by many great-great-grandchildren, and many friends. Murbel grew up in Dundee, graduating Dundee high school in 1948. She then worked as a waitress at restaurants in Dundee and Penn Yan. Later, she volunteered at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Murbel was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was also an animal lover, the family fondly remembering Kitty, her cat. Murbel Also loved puzzles, and NASCAR, especially Jimmy Johnson. Family and friends are invited to visit Barber Funeral Home, 413 South Main Street, Horseheads on Friday, February 16th from 11am to 1pm. Her funeral service will follow at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to an animal shelter in Murbel’s name.
