Obituary of Paul D. Benjamin Sr.

Benjamin, Paul D., Sr Age 79, of Horseheads, NY. He was born September 1, 1941 in Syracuse, NY, son of the late William James and Theresa (Burbank) Benjamin and passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 11th 2021. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Dennis, Wayne, Jimmy, and Tommy Benjamin; and his sister Sharon Benjamin. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sherry (Schimmerhorn) Benjamin; his children Paul D. Benjamin Jr., Todd A. Benjamin Sr., Tammy Jo Sawyer, Tina L. Otto, and Erika D. Benjamin; 7 grandkids; 9 great grandkids; brothers Danny, and Harold “Hal” Benjamin; sisters Carol Pelrah, and Darlene Benjamin; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Paul had a zest for living life; he received an honorable discharge from his time served in the U.S. Army. Paul, known as ‘Lefty’, or ‘Southpaw’, drove stock cars at the Chemung Speedrome. He played ball as a fast pitcher for several local teams; his favorite place being Eldridge Park. He had a love for NASCAR, football, playing guitar, and shooting pool. His favorite singer was Willie Nelson. He was a Christian and was often found reading his Bible. Paul was a loving husband and father, a wonderful brother with a great sense of humor. He loved all of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Paul had a good, loving heart; he was friends to many and was a joy to everyone that he met. In loving memory of our husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. A private celebration of his life will be held with family.
