Obituary of Deborah Lynn Hornsby

Deborah L. Hornsby (Jewell) “Debbie” Age 65 of Horseheads, NY. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, April 26, 2021. She was predeceased by parents Clark & Margret Jewell; siblings Carol & Maurie Ferland; Sister-in-law Charlene Jewell; father-in-law William T. Hornsby. She was born in Gloversville, NY; raised in Northville, NY and a graduate of Northville Central School, Class of 1974. Following her graduation from high school she enlisted and served in the United State Army. In her nearly six and a half years in the armed forces as a Medical Specialist both home and abroad. Her service spanned Dallas Fort Worth,Texas; Fort Knox, Kentucky and Nurenberg, Germany. She was awarded several military accommodations for the service she provided while enlisted. After her honorable discharge from the Army she returned to Horseheads, NY to raise her four children Jennifer, Jessica, Bill and Jason. Also, was dedicated to taking care of her father-in-law William T. Hornsby until his passing in 2018. Debbie held various positions through the years; she was a matron for the Elmira Police Department, Self-employed daycare provider, Avon consultant for 35 plus yeas and an employee of GST BOCES for more than 27 years. While working as a teacher-aide she formed several relationships with not only her students but their families, as well teachers and staff members she worked with. Hobbies included capturing life’s moments to cherish for years to come, it was not often that she was without a camera in hand to capture the moments she cherished the most “her family and friends.” Crafting, gardening, and a novice collector of many things. Her eleven grandchildren meant the world to her Alexis (Zachary Kwiscenski), Tyler, and Connor Stetts; McKayla (Marissa Clemons), Henry, Gavin, Olivia, Logan, Mason, Greyson and Ella. Brother Scott Jewell and his children Tara (Elliott) Bosch of Las Vegas, NV; Robert (Nicole) Jewell Las Vegas, NV; Charlene (Anthony) Elmendorf, Gloversville, NY; Adam (Sam Handy) Jewell, Johnstown, NY; Chrissy (Seth) Hayes, Windsor, VA; Niece Veronica Waters, Chris (Destiny Deyo) Waters, Lisa Water all from Albany, NY and several other great nieces and nephews and lifelong family and friends. In loving memory of a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Family and friends are invited to visit the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., in Horseheads on Friday May 7th 2021 from 10 am to 12 pm. Deborah’s memorial service will be held there at 12 pm. Private committal and interment will take place later in Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira. Those wishing may make a donation in Deborah's name to the Mr. Mo Project, via the link here
