Chris, affectionately known as “Booter” by those close to him, left his recent pain and battle with cancer and was welcomed to his new home in Heaven by his father, Tom Hakes; uncle, Curt Rumsey; and Gary Pierce, his mother Sharon’s husband. Chris will be remembered by his dear friend and wife, Kelly (Gifford) Quackenbush; his mother, Sharon Rumsey of Wayne, NY; sister, Julie (Paul) Pacheco of Chapel Hill, NC; brother, Steven (Kelly) Hakes of Big Flats, NY; Kelly's sons, whom he loved and cared as his own, James (Heather) Petro II of Rochester, NY, and Robert (Jordin) Petro of North Pole, AK; granddaughter, Scarlet Rose; nieces, Paloma and Stella Pacheco and Sydney Hakes; a host of extended family members, close friends and co-workers. Chris was a graduate of Alfred Tech and worked for several companies in the HVAC estimating and project management capacity including, Frey and Campell, Kodak and most recently his extended family at Bell Construction. His talents and joys extended well beyond his vocation; he was a tinkerer, boat mechanic, marine upholsterer, RC model car and boat enthusiast, enjoyed snowmobiling, liked STS, giving his brother mechanical direction, self-taught artist and painter, animal whisperer, and above all a fixture on the water in the red and white Correct Craft…. Proof that there is a lake and boating in Heaven because Chris would not have left us if there wasn’t. Family and friends are invited to gather for fellowship and sharing at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St, Horseheads on Thursday July 1, 2021 from 4-7:00 pm. His burial will take place beside his father in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Hammondsport.
