On August 14, 2021 our hearts were broken; after a brief battle with lung cancer, Roberta Jean (Gardner) (Slater) Cunningham, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away. She was born on April 14, 1945 to Robert and Edna (Cleveland) (Parker) Gardner. Roberta was predeceased by her parents; her husband George Cunningham; and her siblings Mary Anne, Helen, William (“Ace”), George, Francis Parker and Mary Stout. Surviving Roberta, are her daughters; Mr. Edwin (Doreen) Miller of North Carolina, Mr. Delbert (Veronica) Sipes of Odessa, New York, Ms. Katrina Smith of Elmira, New York, and Mr. Leonard (Dawn) Adams of Pine City, New York; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will also be remembered dearly by a very special niece, Ms. Stella Gardner. Her life was a gift to all those who knew her, serving others in ministry, as 4H Leader, in Girl Scouts, and as volunteer for the American Cancer Society. She enjoyed baking, crocheting, sewing, and time spent with family. She found joy and satisfaction in her employment as well, serving as a secretary and job coach with Capabilities Inc., in Elmira, New York. Family and friends are invited to visit Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St. in Horseheads on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 from 10 am to 11am. Roberta’s funeral service will then take place at 11 am, with committal prayers and interment prayers to follow at Rural Home Cemetery, Big Flats, NY
