Obituary of Joyce Ann Fivie

Joyce Ann Fivie Age 86, of Horseheads, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. Joyce was born March 3, 1935 in Elmira, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mildred (Connelly) Slavin. Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Bob on November 14, 1995. She is also predeceased by a sister, Judith M. Austin on April 6, 2019, & son in law, Larry B. Lange on January 14, 2021. She is survived by her children, Robert M. Fivie Jr. (Tracia) of Elmira, NY, Donald J. Fivie, (Brenda) of Candor, NY, Kevin M. Fivie of Horseheads, NY, & Darlene M. Lange of Phoenix, NY; grandchildren, Kayla Fivie, Rachel Fivie, Stephanie Fivie, Alexis Fivie, Joseph Fivie, Sonya Krauss, Mason Lange & Ryan Lange (Canaan); great grandson, Emory; forever daughter in law, Darlene H. Barber; sister, Mary (Tim) Sommer of Prescott, AZ; brother, Joseph (Sandy) Slavin of Elmira, NY; along with several cousins, nieces and nephews. Joyce graduated from Thomas A Edison High School in 1952. Following graduation she worked at multiple manufacturing facilities, sheltered workshops, and professional offices within the Tri-County area. She always took great pride in all her work accomplishments during her career. Joyce married Robert M. Fivie Sr. on December 29, 1955, celebrating nearly 40 years of marriage. Raising their children included a fondness for animals, enjoying cats, dogs, horses, cows, goats, geese & more. She was a very talented crafter, avid Syracuse basketball fan, had a witty sense of humor and told it like it was. She was a proud Grandma who loved attending her grandkids events and was their biggest fan. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, September 13, 2021 at St Mary Our Mother Church, 816 W. Broad Street, Horseheads, NY 14845 at 10:00am with the Rev. Christopher E. Linsler Officiating. Burial will follow immediately in Maple Grove Cemetery. The family would also like to thank the countless professional healthcare providers at Bethany Manor, & CCNF for the compassionate care Joyce received over the years at both facilities.
