He was born December 25, 1942 in Montclair, New Jersey, son of John and Kathryn (Hall) Diffenderfer, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his eldest brother John Diffenderfer. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Ellen (Painter); his son-in-law and daughter David and Kristy (Diffenderfer) Stewart; granddaughters Lauren and Stephanie Stewart; his sister Marylou (Diffenderfer) Fice; youngest brother William Diffenderfer along with numerous nieces and nephews and longtime business partner and loyal friend, Deborah Besley. Bob proudly served his country for 4 years in the US Marine Corps where he was awarded the M-14 Rifle Expert Badge. After his honorable discharge from the USMC, he was a successful entrepreneur in the food service industry and later, the commercial cleaning industry. In his free time, Bob loved boating, woodworking, cooking, and gardening. In addition to these hobbies, he most loved spending time with his 3 dogs and 3 cats. He was a passionate animal lover, appreciating creatures of any species. He provided a loving home to many strays who were fortunate enough to cross his path. Bob was a thoughtful man with a keen sense of humor who is greatly loved and missed. Family and friends are invited to visit the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St. in Horseheads, NY, on Friday October 1, 2021 from 11am to noon. Bob’s memorial service will be held there at 12 pm. Bob will be laid to rest in the Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira with military honors.
