Obituary of Nellie L. Baker

Baker, Nellie L. Age 98, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 10, 2022. Nellie was predeceased by the love of her life Lewis Baker and her grandson Jeff Blend. She was a 1942 graduate of Athens High School. Nellie was an avid athlete playing softball, basketball and was a head cheerleader. After graduating, Nellie worked in the "Silk Mill", as she called it, in Sayre, PA. Nellie enjoyed singing, bowling and spending time with her family. Nellie was a diehard Yankees fan and would let everyone know who they should keep and who should be traded. She loved spending time with her family, especially her great grandson Zander and her cat Angel. Nellie was a lifelong member of the Millport Fire Department Auxiliary and Order of the Eastern Star. Nellie was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where her husband Lewis was the Pastor. Nellie is survived by her sons Gary (Carolyn) Blend of Elmira, Robert (Donna) Baker of Horseheads, Steve [her favorite] (Sue) Baker of Horseheads; daughter Mary (Perry) Coon of Horseheads as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. For nearly the past 6 years, she resided with her daughter and son-in-law (known as PaPa). Rest in Peace Mom. Family and friends are invited to visit Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., Horseheads on Thursday, June 16th from 1 to 4 pm. Her funeral and committal services will follow at 4 pm. Pastor Jack Deyo will officiate. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
