Obituary of Paul B. Ohliger

Paul B. Ohliger Age 91 of Big Flats, NY Paul passed peacefully on October 19, 2022 at Arnot Ogden Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Paul was born February 24, 1931 in Charleroi, PA to Paul L. and Viola Ohliger. He married the love of his life, Diana Barni, on February 13, 1954 in Charleroi, PA. Their happy marriage spanned 68 years. Paul is survived by his loving wife, Diana; daughter Deborah (Russell) Minier of Big Flats, NY and son Kenneth (Alla) of Hunt Valley, MD; grandchildren Jennifer (Levi) Schmieg of Corning, NY, Paul (Christina) Minier of Big Flats, NY, James (Stephanie) Minier of Burke, VA, Kenneth (Samantha) Ohliger Jr. of York, PA, and Simon (Gabriella) Flom of Arlington, VA; great-grandchildren Noah and Kathyrn Schmieg, Sophia, Samuel and Lucas Minier, Ellie, Riley and Victoria Minier, Weston and Brody Ohliger, and Allyna and Naomi Flom. In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by his in-laws Eulalio and Josephine Barni, brother-in-law Norman Barni; and nephew Leslie Barni. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who cherished spending time with his family. A selfless giving person, Paul was affectionally known as “Pappap” Paul enjoyed managing finances and cooking, and will be remembered for his Christmas family seafood gumbo events. He also enjoyed fixing and repairing any and all things around the home for himself and family. Paul was a graduate of Charleroi High School, class of 1949, and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, class of 1956 with a B.S in Chemical Engineering. Paul served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1955. Paul retired from The Corning Glass Works (now Corning, Inc.) in 1992 after 36 years. He retired as Supervisor of Production & Engineering in the Advanced Ceramic Components at the Erwin Ceramics Plant. Paul was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Big Flats and formerly an Elder of the church. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make donations to the Arnot Health Foundation, 571 East Market St., EMAC Suite 102, Elmira, NY 14901, or a charity of their choosing in his memory. His family would like to thank: Dr. G Schultz, Dr. S Debnath, Dr. T Wang, Dr. Angell, Dr. Dauphin, Dr. D Hull, DDS Sementilli and DDS Rizzoni, and their staff for his excellent medical care. We would also like to thank his caring Hospice nurses; Kelly, Laura, Keisha, Michelle, and Melanie at the Arnot Hospital. Family and friends are invited to visit Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., in Horseheads, NY on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 from 3pm-5pm. His service will be held there at 5pm. He will be laid to rest in Rural Home Cemetery.
