Obituary of Thomas L. Briggs

Briggs, Thomas Age 88 of Horseheads, NY. Tom was born on August 5th 1934 in Elmira, NY, son of the late Olive & Dean Briggs. He passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, January 30th 2023. He is survived by his loving wife of over 66 years, Shirley Anne; children Cheryl (Michael) Hollenbeck, Michelle "Shelly" (Paul) Lankowsky, Kathy Byrnes, and Mark Briggs; grandchildren Scott (Amy) Briggs, Kerri (Marc) Munley, Eric (Marybeth) Hollenbeck, Bryan (Kim) Herrmann, Matthew (Sandra) Herrmann, and Rebecca (Chad) Douglas; his 18 great grandchildren; along with many extended family and dear friends. Tom served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1958; he remained in the Reserves for years afterward. Returning to Elmira Tom found work with Hardinge Brothers Inc where he retired after over 25 years. He was fond of playing golf, fishing, hunting, and all that stoked his love for the outdoors. He followed the New York Yankees and Washington Commanders. Tom also developed a hobby of beekeeping; his hives made honey that he shared with friends and family. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Tom by celebrating his love of dogs by making a donation to the Chemung County SPCA. Family and friends are invited to visit the Barber Funeral Home, South Main St., in Horseheads, on Monday, February 6th 2023 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. His funeral service will be held there at 1pm. Committal to follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
