Obituary of Gary H. Farwell Sr.

Gary H. Farwell Sr. Age 80 of Horseheads, NY. He was born February 21, 1943 in Elmira, NY, the son of the late John H. and the late Mabel (McAfee) Farwell Sr., and passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday, April 24th 2023. In addition to his parents Gary is predeceased by his siblings John H. Farwell Jr., Irma Rodabaugh, Lyle Farwell, and Earl Farwell. He is survived by his children Timothy "Tim" Farwell, Gary Farwell Jr., Stacey (Mike) Lunger, and Debbie Bonnett; grandchildren Connor Farwell, Matthew (Sarah Murphy), and Hannah Farwell, Rachel and Jordyn Lunger, and Savannah Bonnett; brothers Robert (Phyllis), and Dale (Martha) Farwell; with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, dear friends and neighbors including Jim Frey, Marty Sullivan, and Paul Berbary. The youngest of 7, Gary is remembered as a hard-working man who was dedicated throughout his career as a truck driver. A member of Teamster Local 529, he served as a long-time executive board member and past Business Agent. He also received several safe driver citations in his career. He had a long career as a volunteer firefighter; working with Dansville Fire Dept., serving 2 terms as chief with Tompkins Corners Fire Dept., and the Village of Horseheads Fire Dept. Outside of his work Gary was a great dancer, and a man with a wicked sense of humor joined with his wonderful laugh. He was an avid golfer and made 5 hole-in-one's at his favorite course, Soaring Eagles. He was known as a true handyman; he could literally do everything from carpentry, masonry, electrical, welding, and even engine repair. More so, he shared his knowledge with those who would take it in. A loving father, and proud grandfather of 6; he will be greatly missed by all. Family and friends are invited to visit Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., in Horseheads on Friday, April 28th from 2 pm to 4 pm. There will be a time to share for family and friends at 4 pm.
