Obituary of John E Bates

John E. Bates, age 64 Elmira native and former Horseheads resident, passed away August 4th, 2023. Born on December 8th, 1958 to the late Jack and Louise (Bednarchik) Bates. John is survived by his brother Ken Bates; daughter Tawni and son-in-law Rob Sheldon; daughter Nikki, son-in-law Beau MaKinster, and their 5 beautiful children; very special cousin Janine Novick; former wife and friend Lori (Kurtz); and many extended family members who loved him dearly. John had a favorite quote that he would find fitting for this occasion: "Once upon a time there was a man. He was born, he lived, and he died. The End." Friends and family are invited to a party that will be held in honor of John on Saturday, August 12th, from 2pm to 6pm at Harris Hill.
