Obituary of Joseph Daniel Long Jr.

Joseph Daniel Long Jr. Age 53 of Grand Central Ave., in Horseheads, NY. Joseph was born on December 16, 1969 in Elmira, NY, the son of Joseph D. and Antoinette M. (Michalke) Long Sr.; he passed away after a long battle on Wednesday, September 20th 2023. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Sweet-Rodabaugh in 2009. In addition to his loving parents, Joseph is survived by his son Joshua; fiancée Kelly Kadlec; sisters Kathy McAlinn, and Julie (David) Waschezyn; nieces and nephews Jason Sweet and Deidre Sweet, Zach Rodabaugh (Godson), Marissa (Brett) Zaumseil, Kathleen (Dante) Dicesare, Jillian McAlinn, and Alex and Olivia Waschezyn; his good friend Joe Robinson; along with his beloved Aunts and Uncles, both living and passed; and great-nieces and nephews. The center of Joe's life was being a father to his son. He coached Little League baseball, and football when Josh played. His love of sports from his youth, baseball & football at Notre Dame High School, and baseball at Corning Community College, translated into him passing that passion on to his son. Joe was a devout Miami Dolphins (Dan Marino) and New York Yankees fan. He always found a way to be outdoors, often hiking or camping. People were genuinely drawn to Joe because he cared about people. Most of all he was genuine; he was empathetic no matter the circumstance and treated everyone with the same genuine kind attitude. His family offer their special thanks to Debbie Dalrymple-Jaynes, and the staff of Arnot Ogden Medical Center – for all the care and support they provided. Family and friends are invited to visit the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., in Horseheads, on Thursday, September 28th 2023 from 5 pm to 7 pm. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Our Mother Catholic Church, 815 W. Broad Street, in Horseheads, on Friday, September 29th 2023 at 10 am. He will be laid to rest in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery Elmira.
