Obituary of Jean E. Jones

Jones, Jean Elizabeth Wilber, age 83 of Horseheads NY, passed away Thursday October 19th 2023. Jean was born December 22, 1939 to loving parents: Donald Clifford Wilber and Helen Butman Wilber of Breesport NY. Jean has 4 siblings, Judy Arikian, John Wilber, Jim Wilber, and Jeff Wilber. Jean was preceded in death by the love of her life and her best friend, Richard Alan Jones, whom she married November 19th 1960. Jean and Alan adopted 2 children Jennifer and 4 years later Jessica and had the surprise of their lives, when 10 years later they were pregnant with their youngest daughter Jackie. Jean supported her husband during his military service, living in Camp Lejeune until they were able to move back home and build a house next door to her parents. Jean was an x-ray technician for many years until she devoted her time to her children and her husband's business. The House of Stained Glass. After the business closed she went back to working as an x-ray technician and then later as a school technician in the computer department at Horseheads High. She was an incredible mother, an independent and strong woman, who served on the board of education for the Horscheads school district, a founding member of the Community Action Committee. Jean made friends easily with her caring heart, warm smile and easy laugh. She will be remembered by many. Jean is survived by her siblings, her children, son in laws Adam Schouten and Coryndon Luxmoore, grandchildren Samantha Watts and Alyssa Watts and great grandchildren Zayden, Raelynn and Izabelle and numerous nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to visit the First United Methodist Church of Horseheads, located at 1034 West Broad Street, Horseheads on Thursday November 30th from 1-2pm with a Memorial Service celebrating Jean's Life at 2pm, there will be snacks and beverages immediately following where all are encouraged to share their story of this incredible woman.
