Obituary of Mary Ellen Benedict
Mary Ellen Benedict
Passed away on November 1st 2023 – All Saints Day- to join the light of her life, her husband Raymond E. Benedict who predeceased her on January 12th 2014. She was born on September 17th 1936 a daughter to the late James E. Ryan and Mary Frances McCauley Ryan.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mary Ellen was predeceased by her brother Robert J. Ryan and sister Jean A. Ryan. She is survived by her step daughters Deborah (Ronald) Bohlayer of Prattsburg and Jennifer Amandro of Florida; 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; special family Cynthia and Larry Peterson, Carol and Lee Horton; many special friends among them, Ann LeMark, Greta Ritcher, Nancy Butler, Kathy Frisk, Jeanette Capece, and Mr. and Mrs. William Furnase.
Mary Ellen was retired from Verizon Telephone after 32 years of service. She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers and retired after 10 years employed with Chemung County Central Services Dept.
She was a longtime communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads, and a volunteer with Artic League, and member of the former IAV Auxiliary.
There will be no prior calling hours, family and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, November 8th 2023 at 10 am at St. Mary Our Mother Church, 816 W. Broad Street in Horseheads.
Committal prayers and interment will follow in St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery, Elmira.
In lieu of flowers those wishing may make donations to the Food Bank, Artic League, or a charity of your choice.
