Michael Kenfield Swasta

Age 76 of Horseheads, NY. He was born December 24th 1947 in Franklin, PA, the oldest son of the late Michael and Mary (Gaiser) Swasta. Michael passed away peacefully on Saturday January 20th, 2024 with his wife and daughter at his side.

In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Jim (Pat) Swasta.

He is survived by his beloved wife Mary E. (Ladew) Swasta; daughter & son in law Tiffany (Eric) Bonus, with grandchildren Nathan and Timothy Bonus, of Rochester, NY; his brother Ronald (Sherry) Swasta of Montgomery, TX; sister Catherine (Marlin Diffenderfer) Schroth, of Breesport, NY; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

Mike served in the Army; he was deployed to Vietnam from 1968 to 1970 as a Specialist, and part of the Field Artillery. After receiving his honorable discharge, he worked as an architect with his mentors at Cassetti & Klein Architects in Elmira, NY. He moved onto several other firms in his earlier years, then began a second career; Mike retired from the City of Ithaca Dept. of Code Enforcement. Mike was an active member of the 1/92 Field Artillery Association, proud of his service with the "Brave Cannons" and enjoyed many reunions with his "brothers".

Family and friends are invited to visit the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., in Horseheads, NY, on Sunday, January 28th 2024 from 1 pm to 3 pm. His funeral service will be held there at 3 pm. Mike will be laid to rest in a private service with military honors, at Bath National Cemetery.
