Clyde William Gray Obituary
C. William "Bill" Gray, 84, of Elmira, NY, passed away on May 23, 2024. He was born on December 10, 1939, in Wellsville, NY. William, known to many as Bill, was a loving father, grandfather, and friend.
He is survived by his children: Christopher (Ayame) Gray, Michael Gray, and Jennifer Gray; grandchildren: Skyler, David, Vivian, and Taisen Gray. William was preceded in death by his wife, Ronalee Gray, his parents Clyde and Frances Gray, and his sister, Judith Gray.
A graduate of Cornell University, Bill obtained his BA in 1962 and later attended Cornell Law School, graduating in 1965. Bill relocated to Elmira and spent most of his career performing various legal work, including a brief stint as a judge and many years working as criminal defense attorney. He married Ronalee in 1971, and he became a father to Christopher, Michael and Jennifer. Bill and the kids lost Ronalee to lung cancer just six years later.
Bill had a passion for books and was an avid reader. There was always a pile of half-read books near any chair he sat in. He was quick to talk passionately about whatever he was reading at the moment, and had broad interests that spanned the classics, history and literature.
The family is very thankful for the time we had with him. He had some amazing hospice care, and was able to spend his last few months at home.
Family and friends are invited to visit the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., in Horseheads, NY on Monday, April 1, 2024 from 10am to 11am. His memorial service will follow at 11am.
