Wayne Bryant

Obituary of Wayne A. Bryant

Wayne Alan Bryant Age 96, passed peacefully on July 7, 2024, at Arnot Ogden Hospital in Elmira. Wayne was born on December 25, 1927, in Blossburg, Pennsylvania. He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Jennie Bryant, his brother Fritz Bryant, and his beloved wife Ann. Wayne will be remembered by all who knew him as a gentle, quiet, thoughtful, and sweet man. Wayne graduated from Southside High School where he met the love of his life, (Lois) Ann Berry. After graduation, Wayne was recruited by American LaFrance. His career as a skilled model maker included many years at Westinghouse and Bendix Corporation, which later became Facet. Wayne married Ann on August 2, 1952, and soon settled in Horseheads. They adopted their daughter Carol Ann in 1958 and son David Alan in 1960, and provided a wonderful home for their children. Wayne loved hunting, fishing, and being in nature. An excellent carpenter, Wayne enjoyed many home improvement projects, including adding a garage and patio to their beautiful house. Wayne and Ann were a happy team, maintaining large vegetable and flower gardens, working together on their home and three rental properties they owned for many years, and taking the family on trips to the Finger Lakes, Florida, and the Adirondacks during summer vacations. In 1977 the Bryant's purchased a small fishing shack on Seneca Lake and together renovated it into a lovely summer cottage. After retirement, Wayne and Ann enjoyed the cottage and traveling on their own and with friends and relatives, visiting Hawaii, Alaska, the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, the Grand Canyon, Northern Ontario, and many other destinations. They were also very involved in the raising of their grandson, James Bryant. Wayne and Ann shared a love for the ages. Ann was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2015, and Wayne's devoted care for her until her death in 2018 was truly epic. After Ann's passing, Wayne's strength and positive attitude gave him almost six more years of good health, living independently at Appleridge Senior Living in Horseheads, and spending time with his children. The family extends deepest gratitude to the staff on Unit 4B at Arnot Ogden Hospital for their amazing care and compassion during Wayne's final weeks. Wayne is survived by his devoted children, Carol Bryant and David Bryant (Valerie); and grandson James Bryant. A private burial was held by the family on July 16th, 2024 in Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads.
