Obituary of Col. Henry F. Magill USA Ret.

MAGILL, Col Henry F. USA Ret. Age 81 of Horseheads and formerly of Murrells Inlet, SC. Passed away Sunday Feb. 7, 2010. Henry was Born on May 5, 1928, he was the son of the late Ora B. and Sally Jenkins Magill of Badin, NC, and he attended city schools in Concord, NC. He earned a BS degree in engineering from Clemson A&M College, and an MS degree in engineering from the University of Alabama. He was a Registered Professional Engineer. He was a graduate of the US Army War College, Carlisle, PA. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars and a member of the Berlin Brigade in Germany during the Cold War. Among his awards are the Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit. He was assigned to the Army Ballistic Missile Agency as Ade de Camp to Gen. Bruce Medaris, Commander, and was a member of the Werner Von Braun team that launched the first Free World satellite in 1958. He was a Paul D. Harris Fellow of the Huntsville, AL Rotary Club. Following his retirement from the US Army in 1978, he worded in the aerospace industry in systems engineering and retired again in 1996 as Vice President of Coleman Research Corporation, Orlando, FL. From his retirement home in Murrells Inlet, SC he moved to Horseheads, NY in 2008. From the age of 12 he was an ardent golfer. He enjoyed being a volunteer tour guide at Brookgreen Gardens in Litchfield, SC and also served as chairman of the volunteers association at the USAF Rocket and Space Museum at Cape Canaveral, FL. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Janice Kirby Magill; daughter Heather (Patrick) Donovan and granddaughters Colleen and Shannon Donovan, all of Horseheads. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St. Horseheads on Thurs. Feb. 11, 2010 from 6-8:00 pm. His service will be celebrated in the funeral home on Fri. Feb. 12, 2010 at 12:00 noon with interment to follow in Woodlawn National Cemetery where military honors will be accorded.
