Obituary of George J. Bartlett

George J. Bartlett (GJ), of Horseheads, born October 24, 1940. He passed away surrounded by his family on October 26, 2024. He is predeceased by his parents, George and Gladys Bartlett, first wife Mary Bartlett, infant son James Bartlett, brother Gary Bartlett, and son-in-law Scott Bigg. George is survived by his wife of 33 years, Angela, children Deborah Bartlett-Bigg of Horseheads, Diana (John) Stalter of Greenfield Park, NY, Rick Bartlett of Horseheads, Richard (Nancy) Swartwood of Auburn, and Wesley (Heather) Swartwood of Horseheads. He is also survived by his sister Gayle (Peter) Hartman, sisters-in-law Donna Bartlett, Lillian (Paul) Leo, Millie Reina, and Kathleen DuBois, and grandchildren Jeanine Stalter, Erin (Sean) O'Brien, Johnny (Shawna) Stalter, Tyler (Brandee) Bigg, Zachary Swartwood, Emma Bartlett, Gavin Bartlett, Adrianna Swartwood, Madison Swartwood and Logan Swartwood along with 7 great-grandchildren and a large loving family. George's first love was always his family. George started his working life on the Bartlett family farm before working for the Chemung County Highway Department and the Elmira Police Department. He retired from the New York State Department of Corrections after 35 years of service with many friends and even more stories. George enjoyed many summers with family on Waneta Lake and winters in Ellenton, FL. Each fall was spent teaching a new generation of hunters. George lived his best life and we are all the better for it. Family and friends are invited to visit the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., in Horseheads, NY, on Saturday, November 2nd from 1:00 pm – 3:00pm. His memorial service will be held there at 3 pm with honors from the NYS Dept. of Corrections.
