Obituary of Marshall ""Buster"" E. Conklin

CONKLIN, Marshall E. “Buster” Age 84 and long time resident of Ridge Rd. Horseheads passed away at home surrounded by his family on Mon. June 13, 2011. He was born Nov. 30, 1926 in Elmira, NY, to Frank and Elizabeth (Livermore) Conklin. His surviving family includes his wife of 59 years, Bernice (Eggersdorf) Conklin; Son and Daughters, Rita Conklin of Horseheads, Judy (Mark) Kolceski of Baldwinsville, NY, Joseph Conklin of Horseheads; Brother, David (Eunice) Conklin also of Horseheads, Sisters, Rachel Clark of Horseheads and Virginia Swift of Elmira, NY. Buster was also predeceased by his sister, Rebecca Carrier. Buster was graduate of Horseheads High School and Michigan State . A life long horseman, Buster was a self-employed Horseshoer (Farrier) & traveled the Southern Tier, shoeing all types of horses for many farms & stables. He was the resident Farrier from 1976-1991 at the Large Animal Clinic at Cornell University where he taught many students the horseshoeing trade. He was a dedicated member of Pine Valley Baptist Church, Veteran Grange, Mutual Vigilance Society, Chemung County Fair and 4-H programs. He was founding member of the American Farrier’s Association and Hall of Fame, active member of Western NY Farrier’s Association and avid hunter and sportsman. He also raised, trained, and showed horses for many years with his family—his main event was Calf Roping. In his spare time he also enjoyed camping traveling and snowmobiling. Family and friends are invited to call at the Pine Valley Baptist Church, Route 14, 3872 Pinecrest Road, Millport, NY, NY on Sat. June 25 from 10-12:00 noon his service will follow at 12:00 Noon with his friend the Rev. Robert Stuart officiating. Graveside service will take place in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
