Obituary of Joan Nickerson

NICKERSON, Joan C. Age 80 of Old Ithaca Rd. Horseheads, NY, passed away Fri. May 25, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Hospital; after a brief illness. Joan was born in Mt. Vernon, NY to Alfred and Marion (Cowles) Denton. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jack Nickerson; Sons and daughters-in-law, David (Raelene) Nickerson of Kent, OH, Michael (Chevonne) Nickerson of Horseheads, NY, Mark (Pam) Nickerson, NY; Grandchildren; Laken, Christian and Abigail Nickerson, Sean and Jenna Nickerson, Carli and Logan Nickerson; Brother-in-law, Robert (Mary) Nickerson of Horseheads and nieces, nephews and many close and caring friends. Joan was a graduate of Cortland College and taught for several years in Rochester, Florida and Elmira before leaving to raise family. She was a communicant of St. Mary Mother Our Mother Church in Horseheads. Joan was a volunteer at St. Mary Our Mother and Notre Dame High School. She worked and served on committees at Social Ministry and Samaritan Center. Joan was a longtime member of the Social Ministry Committee at St. Mary Our Mother and coordinated the Christmas Program there for many years. Joan was also active with the Horseheads Food Pantry. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St. Horseheads on Mon. May 28, 2012 from 5-8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary Our Mother Church 816 W. Broad St. Horseheads on Tues. May 29, 2012 at 10:00 am with burial service to follow in St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery.
