Obituary of Norma L. Hood

HOOD, Norma L. Age 86 of Horseheads was born Nov. 29, 1925 to Ray and Carrie (Longwell) Stiles and passed away unexpectedly at home on Sat. Aug. 4, 2012. Norma was predeceased by her husband of nearly 60 years, Gerald Hood D.C. on Oct. 24, 2006. Remembering Norma are her daughters and sons-in-law, Sharyl and Neil Maphis of Odessa, NY, Cindy Hood of Elmira, NY, Sue and Joey Sindelar of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren, Chad (Virginia) Maphis, Christian (Stacia) Maphis, Erik Catherwood, Elissa (Dan) Heichel, Carrie Catherwood, Krista (John) Zicari and Jamison and Ryan Sindelar; great grandchildren, Zachary, Gabrielle, and Shelby Heichel, Dustin Zarek, Joshua Hortman, Kayleigh, Austin, Angelina, and Aleigha Maphis, Isabella and Isaac Zicari, Aidan Maphis; brother, LaVern Stiles of Penn Yan, NY; Several nieces and nephews including, Rebecca (Dan) DeMay also of Penn Yan, NY. A longtime resident of Kennedy Drive in Horseheads, Norma was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Horseheads. Norma was the first Mary Kay Consultant in New York State. Joining the company in 1965, Norma was the first Mary Kay director in New York State and earned 20 pink Cadillac’s over her 45 year tenure. Norma concluded her career as the Executive Senior Director with Mary Kay Cosmetics of Dallas, TX. She was an artist, enjoyed bird watching, the Audubon Society, and her cat “Babe”. Norma loved her home, gardening and time with her family. Along with her husband Gerald, she also loved the years spent on Keuka Lake. She was a self driven Lady with an infectious character. She enjoyed traveling the country. Above all else, Norma was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St. Horseheads on Wed. Aug. 8, 2012 from 2-4:00 and again from 6-8:00 pm.
