Obituary of Raymond G. Oldroyd

OLDROYD, Raymond G. Age 86 of Elmira Heights passed away unexpectedly on Thurs. Dec. 6, 2012 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Ray was born in Elmira, NY on Aug. 27, 1926 to Mason and Freda (Barr) Oldroyd. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marian (Swartout) Oldroyd; Sons and daughters-in-law, Keith (Patsy) Oldroyd Athens, AL, Clark (Janice) Oldroyd of Boulder CO, Lynn (Ann) Myrtle Beach, SC, Glenn Oldroyd of Alliance, OH; Grandchildren, Evan (Joni), Sean (Julie), Amanda (Jonathan), Jeremy (Joan), Nicholas (Kelly), Jennifer, Eric, Christopher, Todd (Julie) Cole, Sean, and Laura; 14 great grandchildren and several other extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents Ray was also predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Bonnie Myers. Ray was a longtime member of Oakwood United Methodist Church. He served as Mayor in Elmira Heights from 1970-1980 and served on the Horseheads Town Council. He was a veteran of the US Navy, Past Master and member of Elmira Heights Lodge F. & A.M., Corning Consistory, Elmira Heights Historical Society and the Retired Lions Club. He was also involved with Boy Scouts. Ray was retired from the former NYNEX in Elmira. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St. Horseheads on Monday December 10, 2012 from 2-4:00 and 6-8:00 pm. His service will take place privately. Burial service with military honors in Woodlawn Cemetery. Officers and members of Elmira Heights and Horseheads F. & A.M will gather at the Barber Funeral Home on Monday at 7:45 pm to conduct a memorial service for their departed brother
