Obituary of Nancy M. Spirawk

Nancy M. Spirawk Age 57 of Elmira Heights passed away on December 6, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with Cancer. She was born August 28, 1955 in Corning NY to Edward and Mary (Gullo) Houpt. She is survived by her husband, Michael Spirawk; daughters, Danielle and Stephanie Spirawk also of Elmira Heights, NY; son, Jason Joris of Alpine, NY; parents, Ed and Mary “Minnie” Houpt of Winterhaven, FL; sister, Kathy (Steve) Draper of Bradenton, FL; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of close and caring friends, neighbors and co-workers including special friend, Beth Tunney of Corning, NY. Nancy was also predeceased by her sister, Linda Houpt in 2008 and loyal canine companion, Murphy earlier this year. Nancy was Corning East High, CCC, and Elmira College Graduate. She worked at Corning Inc. and more recently as a Financial Analyst at Dresser Rand in Painted Post. She was a communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads and Volunteer at the Parish Festival and St. Mary’s School. Nancy also volunteered at the Corning Hospital. She was very active in the fight against cancers; Team Captains for the Susan G. Komen-Relay for Life and American Cancer Society-Race for the Cure. Her daughters will take over her teams and continue the fight in their mothers’ memory. Nancy was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend to many. Always there when you needed her and giving her all to anyone that needed her help. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 South Main Street, Horseheads on Monday, December 17, 2012 from 5-7:00 p.m. Prayer service there at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place in St. Mary Our Mother Church, 816 West Broad Street, Horseheads on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Christopher E. Linsler, Celebrant. Burial service will follow in St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery. Those wishing may also remember Nancy with memorials in her name to the Susan G.
