Obituary of Helen M. Comfort

Helen M. (Spencer) Comfort Age 92 of Breesport passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family. Helen was born in Cortland, NY on February 26, 1921 to the late Samuel and Daisy (Dorman) Spencer. She was predeceased by her husband, Ayerie in 1991; and infant children, Donna and John. She is survived by her daughters and son, Nina (Bill) Miller of Troy, PA, Mary Jane (Jerry) Austin of Breesport, NY and Patricia (Stuart) Rankin of Horseheads, NY; Duane (Paula) Comfort of Anaheim, CA; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great- great grandchildren; brother, Samuel Spencer of San Antonio, TX, and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends and neighbors. She was also predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Walter, William and Earl Spencer; Daisy Aloi and Nellie Spencer. Helen volunteered as an aide for both Breesport and Ridge Road Schools. Helen was a longtime resident of Breesport and member of the Breesport United Methodist Church since 1947. She was a past member of the United Methodist Women, held several church offices, charter member of 4-H, Horseheads Food Pantry, Hilltop Cemetery and was a babysitter for Breesport for many years having sat for over 65 children throughout the years. She was also a charter member of Breesport Vol. Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 South Main Street, Horseheads on Monday, March 25, 2013 from 2-4:00 pm and again from 6-8:00 pm. Her service will be celebrated in Breesport United Methodist Church, 110 Church St., Breesport, NY on Tues, March 26, 2013 at 11:00 am with the Rev. Chip Possee officiating.
