Obituary of Joseph F. Davis Sr.

DAVIS, Joseph F. Sr. Age 85 of Eastview Dr. in Horseheads passed away at home on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013. He was born in Elmira on May 15, 1928 to Joseph and Rosa (Criss) Davis. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Marilyn (Watkins) Davis; son and daughter, Pam (Robert) Bauer of Bradenton, FL and Joseph (Pam) Davis Jr. of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren, Russell (Ashley) Bauer, SPC Patrick (Brittnay) Bauer, Ryan and Matthew Davis; great granddaughter, Harper Rae Bauer; special niece, Michelle Masin of Horseheads, NY and host of neighbors and friends. Joe was predeceased by his sister, Arlene Masin in 1996. Joe was a retired Electrician and past president of IBEW Local #139 and member of the Stage Hand Union- IATSE working as stage hand at the Chemung County Fair and later the Clemens Center. He was a life long member of Trinity Episcopal Church where he was an altar boy, usher, Sunday School Teacher and member of the Vestry. He was a member of Horseheads Old Oak Lodge # 364 F. & A.M. and past master of the former Elmira Heights Lodge # 62 F. & A.M. He was also a member of Cashmere Grotto, member and past president of Empire State Grotto Association. Joe was a member and past commander of Masonic War Veterans, Demolay Dad and advisor of Constellation. He was also charter member of Horseheads Retired Lions. Joe was also a member of Elmira Heights American Legion, bus driver for the Mark Twain Cadets Junior Drum and Bugle Corps, US Army Veteran and member of the Elmira Elks Club. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., Horseheads, Today Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013 from 5-7:45 pm. Masonic Service at 7:45 pm. A celebration of the Holy Eucharist will take place in Trinity Episcopal Church, 304 N. Main St., Elmira on Friday Nov. 15, 2013 at 11:00 am with the Rev. Dr. William Lutz officiating. Burial service with military honors will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Joe with memorials to Trinity Episcopal Church, 304 N.
